Fragata

More than 85 years on and Fragata Spanish Olives and olive oils are now sold across the world and remain a firm favourite and kitchen staple for millions of Spanish families. What’s more, they stick to their roots. The ‘Manzanilla’ and ‘Queen’ olives are still picked ‘ordeño’ (by hand) from the very same olive groves Don Santiago harvested, and collected in a padded, esparto basket called a ‘macaco’. This centuries old technique ensures the olives are in perfect condition when they reach Fragata customers worldwide. Fragata Spanish Olives can be used in hundreds of different ways to create authentic Mediterranean dishes and mouth-watering tapas. What better way to create a unique culinary corner of Spain in your own home – go on, Savour the Flavour of Spain! Here at Fragata, you may have already guessed that we LOVE olives! Olives are amazing little things. Not only do they taste great, they have a whole lot of history behind them. Here are a few facts that we think make the humble Spanish olive extra cool… • The olive tree is a cherished symbol of Mediterranean culture; not only for providing a fruit, staple to the Mediterranean diet, but also for its symbolic meaning. • It is said when Adam died, three seeds were placed in his mouth: a cedar seed, a cypress seed and an olive tree seed. The olive tree which stemmed from that seed stands for immortality, nourishment, medicine, ointment and the fuel of God’s humanity. • Since the Neolithic age the olive tree has been used to create numerable things. The leaves were used for brewing tea and medicine; to crown Olympic winners in ancient Greece, and the bark for valuable statues and carvings. So, now you know! Whilst we’re not entirely sure that eating olives will make you immortal, it will bring a smile to your face and transport you to Spain with its unmistakable taste of the Mediterranean.
